About Durham Chapter Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children though leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. Our national theme is "The Power to Make a Difference."
The Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has an extraordinarily rich history. Founded on October 9, 1945, the Durham chapter was the very first chapter in the MARvelous Mid-Atlantic Region and the sixth in the entire country.
Today, the Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is comprised of 63 families and 90 children. The chapter actively plans and implements educational, cultural, health, recreational and social programs and activities for its 90 children and currently supports similar programs locally for children at Agape Corner and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Durham.
One of the objectives of Jack and Jill is "to seek for ALL children the same advantages we desire for our own." The Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has served Durham, Wake, and Orange Counties for 70 years. Mothers and children are expected to actively participate in activities that serve the community. The Durham Chapter is taking bold new steps, not only in raising awareness of children's needs and concerns in our communities, but also by working with local and national organizations.
