The Georgia State Medical Association, Inc. (GSMA) is the state affiliate of the National Medical Association and serves as the collective voice of African American physicians throughout Atlanta, GA and across the state. Since 1893, GSMA has represented the specific interests and concerns of African-American physicians and their patients, maintaining a leadership role in advancing healthcare equity and eliminating disparities in medical practice. With representation of more than 3,000 African American physicians and six affiliated societies across Georgia, GSMA delivers comprehensive professional services including advocacy, education, and public health initiatives. The organization hosts an Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly recognized as one of the finest statewide forums on African American health and medicine, providing continuing professional education and keeping members abreast of advances across medical specialties. GSMA advocates on behalf of disadvantaged communities in the fight for equitable and effective healthcare, maintaining a presence at the State Capitol and partnering with local, state, and federal organizations to expand influence on key health issues. The association conducts extensive consumer education programs addressing cancer, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, women's health, asthma, smoking cessation, immunization, and clinical trials. Members of GSMA serve on the faculties of all medical schools in Georgia, including Morehouse School of Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine, the Medical College of Georgia, Mercer University School of Medicine, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The administrative office is located on the campus of Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, with quarterly meetings and leadership development initiatives.
