The James River Virginia Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders through comprehensive programming and community engagement in Richmond, VA. Founded in 2005, the chapter has grown from its original 17 mothers and 23 children to nearly double that membership, consistently achieving high levels of success in programming activities and community service.
The organization provides a balanced portfolio of educational, cultural, civic, and recreational programs designed to strengthen children ages 2-19. Key initiatives include the Teen Leadership Institute, developed in collaboration with the University of Richmond Jepson School of Leadership, which has been recognized for potential adoption as a national program. The signature Richmond Renaissance Junior Cotillion, now in its seventh year, builds social confidence and teaches etiquette and leadership skills to middle school students in the community.
Program offerings span the entire school calendar year and include cultural outings, leadership conferences for teens, hands-on activities for younger children, and service projects. The chapter actively participates in community initiatives such as the CASA Superhero 5K and Virginia Legislative Day, demonstrating commitment to civic engagement and philanthropy.
