About Seattle Cares Mentoring Movement
Seattle Cares Mentoring Movement is a recognized leader in recruiting, training, and deploying Black mentors to work with area youth throughout Seattle and King County, Washington. The organization offers several innovative programs specifically designed to powerfully and positively change the lives of Black youth and families in the region. Through their comprehensive approach, Seattle Cares connects caring Black adults with local youth-serving organizations, creating meaningful mentoring relationships that extend beyond traditional one-on-one interactions. Their group-mentoring programs focus on the emotional, social, and academic development of children while simultaneously supporting the wellness of the adults who parent, mentor, and educate them. The Rising program, supported by King County's Best Starts for Kids initiative, works with middle-school students during the school day to provide key academic, social, and personal skills. Community Wellness Circles, funded by grants from King County and the City of Seattle, create safe spaces primarily for mothers and female guardians. Our Best, launched with City of Seattle funding, recruits and trains motivated Black adults to mentor Black youth. Voices for Change brings top speakers virtually from across the nation to help navigate challenging times and changing communities. Seattle Cares Mentoring Movement addresses the long-standing inequities in health care, education, and economic well-being that disproportionately impact Black families, working to create a healthier, more equitable, and more inclusive community in Seattle and the surrounding region.
